Split a transaction
Record a purchase, split it across categories so the lines add up exactly, and keep transfers out of spending.

This is for the grown-up recording a purchase that needs to be divided across more than one category.
Add the transaction
To add a transaction:
- Enter the amount on the “How much?” keypad.
- On “What was it?”, fill in “Description” (up to 200 characters).
- Pick an Account and a Category (suggested from the description). To divide it right away, tap “Split across categories” under the category chips, add a line per category and tap “Save split”; the form then shows “{count} lines · {names}” with “Edit” and “Remove split”.
- Tap “Add transaction”.
There is no date field on this screen; the transaction is dated today. A row confirmed from an uploaded statement keeps the bank’s date instead, and can be split from the Imports inbox with the same “Split across categories” sheet before it becomes a transaction; see Import a bank or card statement file.
Split it
Open the transaction and tap “Add a line” for each category it covers. Every line has an “Amount” and an optional “Note (optional)”; “Remove” deletes a line. The lines have to add up exactly. Until they do, the screen shows “Lines are off by {amount}”. Tap “Save split” once they match; the “Save” in the header does the same.
Receipts
The transaction screen has a “Receipt” section that reads “No receipt attached.” until one is there. An attached image shows inline; a PDF shows as an “Open receipt” link. Attaching a receipt from inside the app is not available yet; when it ships, a receipt can be a JPEG, PNG, WebP or PDF up to 10 MB, one per transaction.
Transfers are not spending
A transfer has only From, To, Amount, Date and a “Note (optional)” field, no category at all. As the app puts it: “A transfer isn’t spending — it never touches a budget category or this month’s total.” When either account is a kid’s jar, the form also asks whether this is a “Standard transfer” or a “Jar move”.
Undo
Deleting asks “Delete this transaction?” and reassures you: “You can undo this for 30 days.” Afterwards the screen reads “This transaction was deleted. It can be restored for 30 days.” with an “Undo delete” button.
