Choose jar floors
Set or change floors: the least that must go into Save and Give on payday. The kid places the rest.
Last updated 23 Sep 2026
This is for the grown-up setting how much of each payday must go to Save and Give. It covers the floor definition, setting the floors, changing them later, and a worked example.
What a floor is
CubbyJar defines it exactly like this: “The least that must go into each jar on payday. {name} can add more, never less.” Spend has no floor of its own. It is always whatever is left after Save and Give take their share.
Set the floors
To set the floors:
- Go to Kids.
- Choose the kid.
- In the “Payday” section, tap “Edit” (or “Set up payday” if there is no schedule yet).
- Go to the “Floors” section.
Two steppers, “Save floor” and “Give floor”, move in steps of 5%, and together they cannot pass 100%. If you push them too far, the screen says “Floors can’t add up to more than 100%.” Otherwise it shows “{name} chooses the rest: {pct}%”. Tap “Save”.
Changing floors later
Changing only the floors does not move the next payday date. The new floors apply to the next payday that opens. A payday that is already open keeps the floors it opened with, because the floors are fixed the moment a payday opens.
Save growth
The same screen has a “Save growth” section: a monthly percentage added to what the kid leaves in Save. See pay growth on the Save jar for how it works.
A worked example
Say the payday is $10, with a 20% Save floor and a 10% Give floor. At least $2 must go to Save and at least $1 to Give. The kid places the remaining $7 across the three jars, adding more to Save or Give if they want, never less.
