Pay growth on the Save jar
Set a monthly rate and a day, and CubbyJar adds a little to whatever the kid leaves in Save; you hand it over at Settle, like allowance.

This is for the grown-up who wants a kid’s Save jar to grow on its own each month, with a look at what the kid sees when it lands. It covers turning Save growth on, how the amount is worked out, what it does to the budget, and the kid’s side.
Turn it on
To set it up:
- Go to Kids.
- Choose the kid.
- In the “Payday” section, tap “Edit”, or “Set up payday” if there is no payday yet.
- Under “Save growth”, set “Growth rate”, a stepper from 0 to 10% in steps of 0.5. At 0 it reads “Off”.
- With a rate above 0, “Growth day” appears, reading “on the {day}”, from the 1st to the 28th.
- Tap “Save”.
The helper underneath explains it: “Added to what {name} leaves in Save, once a month. You pay it at Settle, like allowance.” Back on the kid’s detail screen, the “Payday” card gains a “Save growth” row reading “{rate}% on the {day}”. Pausing payday does not pause growth; only a rate of 0 turns it off. The rest is in Set a payday.
How the amount is worked out
On the growth day, CubbyJar takes what the Save jar holds, multiplies it by the rate, and rounds to the cent: $40 at 2% gets $0.80. Nothing is added to an empty or overdrawn jar, and only Save grows.
It posts once a month, on the growth day, in your family’s time zone. A rate set or a day moved after this month’s day has passed takes effect next month; nothing is back-filled.
What it does to the budget
The credit is a paid transaction on the Save jar, described as “Save growth · {rate}%”, so it raises what the household owes the kid the same way allowance does. You hand it over when you settle the jar. Because progress on a savings goal is read from the Save jar, growth counts toward the goal too.
What the kid sees
The Save jar shows “A grown-up pays {rate}% on the {day} of the month”. When a credit lands, the kid gets a push titled “Savings grew” at 8 in the morning, family time, and their feed shows “Your savings grew”. Tapping it opens “Your Save jar grew by itself”, with “You left in Save”, “Growth this month”, and “Added today” or “Added on {date}”. Before the first credit it reads “Nothing added yet — the first one comes on the {day}”. The tip underneath: “Leave more in Save next month and this number gets bigger. Spend it and it starts again from what’s left.” The button says “Nice”.
