Set a payday

Choose the allowance, the rhythm and the start date, then let the kid run payday: the floors go in first and they place the rest.

Last updated 23 Sep 2026

This is for the grown-up setting up payday, with a look at what the kid sees when it runs. It covers the schedule, Save growth, the kid’s three-step flow, posting it as a grown-up, and a few rules worth knowing.

Set the schedule

To reach the schedule:

  1. Go to Kids.
  2. Choose the kid.
  3. In the “Payday” section, tap “Edit” (or “Set up payday” the first time).

On the “Payday” screen, fill in “Allowance each payday”. The field is optional; its helper reads “Leave empty for no allowance. Approved chores still pay out on payday.” Pick a rhythm, “Every week”, “Every two weeks” or “Every month”, and choose a weekday or a day of the month from 1 to 28. A “Start date” field shows a live preview, “First payday: {date}”. The “Payday is on” toggle can pause the whole schedule.

A payday opens whenever there is something to pay: the allowance, approved chores, or both. With no allowance and nothing approved, nothing opens for that period and the schedule simply moves on to the next date.

Save growth

The same screen has a “Save growth” section. The “Growth rate” stepper runs from “Off” to 10% in steps of 0.5%. Once the rate is above zero, a “Growth day” stepper picks a day of the month from 1 to 28. The helper explains it: “Added to what {name} leaves in Save, once a month. You pay it at Settle, like allowance.” See pay growth on the Save jar for the full article.

What the kid sees

The payday opens on its own at 2 a.m. in the family’s time zone on the day. On the kid’s Home, the band reads “Payday is today!” and a ticket titled “Payday is here” says “Tap to fill your jars”. Tapping it starts three steps:

  1. A ticket titled “You earned”, listing “Allowance” and one line per approved chore, each carrying the chore’s own name, with “Next: fill my jars”.
  2. A split screen asking “Where should the {amount} go?”, with the note “The dotted lines are set by a grown-up. You can add more above a line, never less.” A “Use the grown-up’s split” link puts everything back at the floors; “Drop it in” posts it.
  3. A landing screen, “In they go”, ending with “See my jars”.

If a grown-up wants to post it

To post it as a grown-up:

  1. Go to Kids.
  2. Choose the kid.
  3. In the “Payday” section, while a payday is open, a row reads “Waiting for {name} to fill the jars”. Tap “Drop it in at the floors”.

This posts the payday at the floors: Save and Give get their floor amounts and Spend gets the rest.

Rules worth knowing

A payday can never be posted twice. A missed period is not made up later; only the latest due payday opens. If the next payday falls due while the last one is still open, the open one is dropped in first. Changing the rhythm or the start date recomputes the next payday date; changing only the amount or the floors does not. If the schedule you save has its first payday today, it opens right away. Switching “Payday is on” off shows “Paused: the open payday is dropped in at the floors and no new payday opens.” Switching it back on picks the next date on the same rhythm as before.
